    Agreed. Hopefully that feeling outweighs the longer cast point. This change to me looks reasonable, but I'll reserve judgement until I've had a chance to give it a go.

    I agree. This is the best comp experience I've ever had. People are interested, but relaxed. There is no expectation for comms, but the folks I'm getting Q'd with do so anyway out of habit. I have played against quality players of all roles, but more importantly, it's happening at the same time on both sides. This change is going to improve OW immensely.

    Is it just me or does it appear Sigma has his eyes closed in his hero icon? I wonder if as a result of the experimentation or birth related complications, Sigma is blind. Maybe the gear on his head allows him to visualize the battlefield?

    I see your point and I agree with it for my case as a low diamond player. I'm sure my movement could use work and there are refinements I could make that would reduce the probability that I die at close ranges to widow.

    I came in this thread to voice what I personally find distasteful about playing against oppressive widows in my ladder experience, and my experiences are not necessarily your experiences.

    For most people, it really sucks to get one shot, and for me it really really sucks that a skilled or lucky widow even has the option that they can pop off when dropped unexpectedly in the middle of a fight standing next to several enemy heroes. When this happens, while rare, it's devastating.

    I'd rather be able to safely compartmentalize widow as a sniper with a dual weapon SMG that is good at mid/long ranges and somewhat at a disadvantage at close ranges.

    Having to make difficult shots and shredding a team within immediate range of widow breaks her entire concept for me as a sniper.

    I'd argue 150 damage is more than generous to widow at these ranges given her short charging scope.

    One thing that may provide some context is that on dps I am most capable with pharah, sombra, and doom fist. On tank, monkey/rein. On support, ana. I dislike genjis playstyle and find playing widow boring. I like heroes with more going on than just aim, those heroes who can make big brained plays.

    When I get matched up against a potent widow, put yourself in my shoes. What options do I have for contesting her? At low diamond, widow is not quite super oppressive yet, but she certainly can shred my monkey (burn my mobility CD lose half my hp) or sombra (she turns and one shots me from 5 feet awat). I can't get close to her as doom. My pharah can deal with her maybe, but I have to play really out of my mind to do that. Ana has to hit her three times to kill her. Not really an option.

    All that leaves me in particular left feeling frustrated against widow and demotivates me in climbing higher where skilled widows (and hanzos who function similarly) only become more common.

    What I might have to do is raise my genji skill level out of the dumpster and make adjustments in my playstyle as monkey in order to have more options for successfully contesting her.

    Your statement indicates you don't have respect for high risk low reward heroes that have many options for dealing and you do have respect for low risk high reward heroes that there are few options for dealing with.

    I feel you are not considering what widow is required to do to carry vs what a doom fist has to think about and contend with.

    What matters to me is that widow can and does frontline when contested or when her poor positioning drops her in a middle of a fight.

    A sniper is not designed to have a short range quick charging one shot on dps/supports or near one shot on tanks at close range. Other heroes can and should be better at that.

    Difficulty if we're being honest is irrelevant here. Her kit is overwhelmingly good at infinite range. It would STILL be pretty fantastic at short ranges as 150 damage in a single click places a considerable kill pressure on most heroes (and outright kills tracer).

    My point is this short range sniper option to pump out a rapid burst of 300 hp damage is oppressive and not realistically staying in the game forever.

    Let's assume the change I proposed was made and see if I can walk you through my thought process which may shed some light on why I as a low diamond player think this would be a healthy change for widowmaker.

    Now, when widow is contested by anyone except Tracer (150 hp hero in close proximity will remain within one shot territory) her option to one shot you at close range in an extremely short period of time goes away. If nothing else, this introduces more opportunities for counter play against widow that don't exist today, which I view as the crux of the problem I'm trying to solve here. I don't want to gut the hero just because getting one shot doesn't feel good regardless of who is doing it when or how, and I'm not trying to. I simply think the close range one shot option widow has on most dps heroes other than tracer needs to go. Widow can keep her overwhelmingly potent kit, it just needs to have added to it some reasonable constraint that increases the requirement for basic positioning awareness that is completely nonexistent for her today in her current iteration.

    With my proposed change, there's more for widow to think about in choosing how to use grapple in response to being contested that will depend on who is contesting her and how much hp they have.

    Do I attempt to headshot and follow up with SMG to confirm the kill?

    Do I burn a valuable CD and attempt to trick shot the contesting hero thus restoring my incredible 300 hp burst damage and settle the contest in short order?

    Do I simply try to get away?

    I believe this change would add more depth to the hero beyond her point and click adventure playstyle.

    When using grapple, widow will need to be aware of where enemy heroes are in order to maximize her effectiveness.That's good, because it adds a certain degree of need for positioning awareness to Widow that she completely lacks today. The skill ceiling rises.

    In my honest opinion, the training wheels for widow need to come off and her frontlining days as the defacto sniper in OW need to come to an end. There are other heroes in the game who are designed to be good at frontlining when contested and a sniper is absolutely NOT one of them.

    Frankly, 150 damage in a short period of time is no joke. That's more than twice as powerful than a hit from Ana's rifle. Against tracer, she's dead. Against a 200 hp hero, they are almost dead. Because widow has an SMG and grapple, I don't think this change would put her in a bad place at all. I believe it would push her in a healthy direction where she'd need to think about her positioning a bit more; adding to the hero.

    In my opinion, and what I'm about to say should be in line with Blizzard design philosophy, is that widow can keep what makes her strong, but needs to have removed that which should leave her weak and potentially vulnerable, meaning her ability to front line any engaging hero w/o grapple.

    For example, starting in diamond widow can, will, and does frontline sombra at close ranges, a hero that on paper sounds tailor made to deal with her while leaving options for counterplay. This applies to anyone with less than 300 hp (which is most of the cast). It only gets more likely as you climb. And tanks, which are typically needed to assist in contesting her for that reason, might as well be committing suicide by engaging her for the same reason.

    How about she simply deal less damage when an enemy is in close proximity to her? Like 150 instead of 300? If she has grapple she can use it to escape and put enough distance between her and the engaging hero that her original 300 damage headshot becomes possible again.

    Then the hero retains their infinite range, extreme burst design, but they may have to rub more than 2 brain cells together when being contested.
