I didn't like Zama at all, but I agree with Gillian that Anderson's argument about it is super arrogant and dumb. People look for different things in movies. The fact that they like something you don't doesn't mean that they don't really like it and are just pretending to.

True. Though it's hard to get as invested in an alternate universe comic I think and they aged the characters way up rather than leaving them close to their 616 ages.

Yeah. And they obviously know that's what a large segment of the fanbase wants or Renew Your Vows wouldn't be a thing.

I really like the book overall, but Rogue not having control of her powers has been done over and over and over again since she was introduced.

They don't actually hate her. They hate a straw man version of her saying completely different things.

Burning is on Hoopla right now if you have access through your library.

Great article. The older Conservative version of this is calling everything they subjectively like "common sense." If you proclaim that something is common sense, (voter ID laws, the border wall, etc.) then it doesn't matter if experts say it won't work or isn't needed. You can ignore the reality of the situation and boil it down to its simplest parts and claim that your second grade logic wins over anything else.

Number 1: Bryan and Anderson. Or did they already make that joke?

Not the guy in the black shirt. Either that or he's too comfortable.

Because one can still beat the odds, have clean water and shelter and food, and be utterly miserable

Or you can lack adequate food and shelter and water and still find more moments of happiness than sadness. Obviously, it's a good thing for those of us who are comparatively very wealthy to empathize with those who have less, but the idea that their lives are just constant suffering and that happiness is proportional to the amount of money you have is false.

    "There's a book of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure???"

    "Umm..."

[–] Shoplifters on Hoopla offensivename 1 points ago in thefilmvault

Absolutely. I went through and watched the AFI Top 100 list and the Best Picture nominees since 1990 over the last few years and I never would have been able to do it without my local library.

Though it does make me feel anti-intelectual to be checking out a big stack of movies while others are checking out books. I want to tell everyone that they're artsy foreign films and I read books too. I have a Kindle. I swear.

You think? I'm pretty sure I remember a guy standing next to her when she's showing off the ring. Though it's been a long time since I've seen it.

[–] Top 5 Bar Fights offensivename 1 points ago in thefilmvault

I mean, yeah... But if the guy had died, the movie would be a much bigger story and we'd all probably know about it, right? A snuff film playing in mainstream theaters would get a lot of bad press.

Yeah. He was so nonchalant about everything. He knew that B was a monster and just kind of shrugged it off and barely lifted a finger to stop him.
