The season 1 opening theme of Mob Psycho is straight up hype fuel.

[–] Is there discipline or area of knowledge where there is nothing left to learn? peanutbuttahcups 2 points ago in NoStupidQuestions

American here. I graduated public hs over a decade ago, and IB was just incorporated into my school before I left. From what I remember, it was different from Advanced Placement (AP) courses, but my school had both.

What I think the original person is getting at (the one who wrote the list) is that there are pretentious people who say the battle royale genre of games owes itself to the success of books/movies like the Hunger Games, and then even more pretentious people say "No, they owe it to the Battle Royale movie," and so on.

Personally, I haven't seen anyone be pretentious with Hunger Games, but I have seen it with Battle Royale.

    Good, comrade.

[–] Does Japanese Audio just sound that much better to us, because we are not as attuned to the language (ie fluent) and thus do not hear when there is bad acting? peanutbuttahcups 1 points ago in anime

Like are there forums all over japan with people ripping apart the same Animes we are praising?

I was thinking about this the other day. Like are there anime that are generally considered mediocre or straight up trash in Japan that we exalt outside of Japan? If so, what are their criticisms?

Yeah, this is near the area just before you battle The End. You could go straight to the battle by heading up the map, or get some items from this section which was off to the right.

[–] Games that have high critical praise on release, but are now disliked/hated peanutbuttahcups 2 points ago in Games

I did enjoy a lot of the fan service in MGS4, but I do recognize that it stifles creativity and is just for appeasement instead of trying new things or going in directions the creator wants to go. And that in tying up loose ends, there's never an answer that'll satisfy everyone's curiosity. Some things are better left to the imagination. I know Kojima has long been tired of having to continue making sequels for the series, that's why I'm happy for him that he gets to work on something new.

i think how ridiculously emphasized it was made it far more fun when it goes right, but so much more frustrating when it goes wrong.

This is a divisive thing in some games. Some people want games to be realistic, involved, or derive a sense of satisfaction in things that are hard to master. Some just want to jump in and feel like a badass with no hardship or tedium. I feel like the driving physics meshed well with the serious tone of GTAIV anyway, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You're not wrong, but what the sentiment is getting at is that the game lacks something that makes the previous games so memorable. It hands down has the best gameplay in the series, but it fails to deliver a complete, satisfying story that some fans of the series were hoping for.

going so far as to send death threats to Kojima for not continuing it.

This is the first I've heard of that, but I'm not surprised. Rabid fans can ruin the greatest things.

To that point about being boring, I think the briefing cutscenes in MGS4 traded storytelling for interactivity. I.e., you could switch cameras and pilot the Mk.II in the plane while Snake and co. talked about the mission. But in MGS3 and older games, you were forced to sit through comic book-style illustrations and listen to composed music.

Needs the sad/concerned "Say 'yay'" part too.

This is gonna be my go-to instead of the original now, thanks for this.

There's even a while subreddit that keeps track of the weird stuff: /r/ElsaGate.

I haven't read too much into it cuz the whole thing is just bizarre to me. But there's a sticky at the top for a decent rundown.

Ah, this is news to me. Well that's not good. The animators are grade A. Especially for the work they do in bringing those improv episodes to life.
