    [–] Megathread - Formula 1: Drive To Survive Season 2 peke_f1 7 points ago in formula1

Honest opinion: on balance it's bad.

We learned so little over 6 hours of footage.

The edited conversations, encounters, and radio messages are just so obvious..? I understand why they've done it, but for me it's not being fair to future fans.

The randomly inserted radio messages in Gasly vs Hamilton's genuine race to the lane in Brazil sealed it for me.

[–] What is your opinion on Sky Sports Packages? peke_f1 2 points ago * (lasted edited 14 hours ago) in formula1

Yeah so sounds like the deal you've mentioned was the one that originally got reported to the Advertising Standards Authority last year.

This was misleading because it suggested anyone could watch F1 on Sky for just £10, but it was actually only those who were subscribed already (with monthly subscriptions of well above £25/mo) who could add F1 to their package for an additional £10. They did later change their advertising campaign.

Usually (for the last 2 years irrc) NowTV comes out with a deal to provide access to Sky's Sports channels for a big discount.

Hopefully they're offering it again this year - I'm yet to look into it.

[–] Rules Question: Retiring from a race peke_f1 1 points ago in formula1

but sometimes backmarkers will work on some nagging major issue but still attempt to finish, even if it's many laps behind

Still happens in F1. Ricciardo at Spa in 2018 when the huge Alonso crash happened had his rear wing ripped off and they repaired it and sent him out a few laps down. They eventually did retire the car but only after the race had developed enough that they realised they weren't gonna gain anything from the extra running.

In F1, in most cases it's not possible to get a stopped car back to the pit without stopping the race, so when a car retires it'll be recovered and often kept by the side of the track for the race to finish.

In oval racing it's often easier to return the car to the team during the race, but on circuits F1 goes to it's a lot more complicated if the car can't get back safely under its own power.

[–] Rules Question: Retiring from a race peke_f1 2 points ago in formula1

Plus, nowadays the FIA will literally just radio a team if they want them to retire a car. The flag is used nowadays pretty much only when contact with the driver has been lost. I remember both Haas cars in Monaco last year had radio issues so they asked the FIA to black flag them to get them to pit.

[–] [OT] Qualifying and reserve drivers peke_f1 12 points ago in formula1

    26.1

    a) During a season each team will be permitted to use four drivers. Changes may be made at any time before the start of the qualifying practice session provided any change proposed less than 18 hours before the scheduled start of P1 receives the consent of the stewards.

Additional changes for reasons of force majeure will be considered separately.

Any new driver may score points in the Championship.

From the sounds of it, that would be considered separately by the Stewards, but it doesn't look like the replacement be allowed to start if they hadn't qualified.

no one really wants a scandal

The FIA and Ferrari don't want this scandal, the other non-Ferrari teams certainly will. Ferrari customers will be forced to be indifferent.

The timing of this too - right at the end of testing so there's small chance of paddock and media reaction over 2 weeks of testing.

    Can't be ignored.

So I’m at testing and I’ve just realised Racing Point are only team without a pit wall setup in the pit lane. How odd.
