[–] FD(ear)H wants us to respond to my MIL and she's apparently calling in three hours. Please help pheonixfire21 1 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

Question: She brings up all of these other people that supposedly he should miss talking to - does she play gatekeeper to those people? Would your SO be willing to form a relationship with those people independent of his parents?

[–] The bitch dyed her hair bright pink!!!! pheonixfire21 1 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

I mean, not everyone wants to grow up and be the pink crayon, but ya know she's got to set that bar high for herself. Personally, since she's very, very obviously doing it for attention - just ignore her. Remind yourself (and anyone else) that your wedding day is about your marriage - not the nutter trying to be a pink crayon. Next time she mentions how "nobody will confuse us now", gently remind her that no one was ever going to - you're the one in the bridal dress remember? Blessings on you & your marriage!

I read "morose" as "moose", then realized that might be applicable too. What a moose.

    Niko sounds demonic.

What? Because it's a derivative of Nikolaus? The saint?

[–] Your bank account just doubled, what can you now afford? pheonixfire21 1 points ago in AskReddit

To fix the brakes on my car or groceries with a little extra.

[–] The last of this year’s persimmon harvest ☺️ pheonixfire21 3 points ago in gardening

This is probably a dumb question: what does a persimmon taste like? I’ve never even seen one in person, let alone tasted one.

[–] who’s that person that you wonder if they still think about you? what’s your story with them? pheonixfire21 1 points ago in AskReddit

My best friend from grade school. Things ended awkwardly after high school. TL:DR- I had a massive crush on him throughout high school and was terrible at hiding it. We haven’t really spoken since high school graduation and I find that I really miss him. We could talk for hours about everything possible, and our disagreements were always respectful and logical. We argued about so many things, but it was so much fun. He introduced me to anime, which later became the first thing my soulmate and I bonded over. I wish I could thank my former BFF for being the catalyst for my love life, but I don’t want it to be awkward. So much time has passed, I really do wonder if he still thinks about me; I definitely think about him often and fondly.

[–] When my DH glimpsed an edge of the fog. pheonixfire21 9 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

We just had to apply for passports. Somehow, it never occurred to my DH that he would need his physical documents. Not even in an emergency. I did ask, and he said they were safer with his parents - over 6 hours away by car, than in our joint bank deposit box.

Result: I asked him if he was 12 or a responsible adult, because I sure as hell wasn't sharing a bed with a 12 year old. It still took his parents 4 months to actually send them to us so we could apply for our passports before the deadline.

[–] Paying back MIL pheonixfire21 8 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

Please get that in writing - concrete evidence in case they decide to sue you (by they I mean MIL). He said-she said is not a valid argument in a courtroom.

Source: I occasionally have to do the things with the evidences and the courtrooms. (Being deliberately vague).

[–] Trash Goblin and the cross-country move pheonixfire21 14 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

My DH and I were in the same boat a few years ago, except our move was significantly less drastic. I accepted a career-starting contract 2.5 hours from our apartment. DH (then BF) was only 2.5 years into a 4year university program. As he explained it to me later - it wasn't even a decision he had to think about. I was going, with or without him, and he loves me more than anything in this world. He put in the work to change universities, jobs, and the expense of moving mid-semester, all so he could continue to see me everyday.

Good luck on your new position! If you happen to be in the central mountainous region of the state, shoot me a message. :)

[–] Redditors who grew up in a low income/poor family but eventually made it to middle/upper class as an adult, what are some things that helped you bridge that gap? Also, what surprised you the most about your current lifestyle compared to when you grew up? pheonixfire21 1 points ago in AskReddit

On bridging the gap: Relatively speaking, I am poorer now than I was as a newly-minted adult. I am currently worth negative currency because of the mortgage and other debts that I carry, that I did not have coming out of grade school. That being said, I have taken advantage of every payment plan available to pay off my debts, busted my butt calling every company I owe money to and negotiating a payment I can actually afford. Now I no longer have negative money at the end of the month (grew up like this for 20+ years - both parents were gravely ill shortly after I was born. The loans they took out to keep us fed and housed have continued to haunt them. It's been >25 years and they are still underwater with no hope of swimming. I help as best I can.) and I have been able to afford repairs/maintenance around my house finally. Most companies are willing to work with you on being able to afford their payments - any money being paid back is better than no money at all to them, you just have to put in the work to call them and show sincere effort to pay your debts. It goes a long way. I will admit - if something were to happen to me, we (my spouse and I) would probably be screwed in very short order; but we can put food on the table consistently, our bills are paid on time and some of them in full. I shop thrift stores religiously - nearly all of my clothes come from there. With a little bit of sewing skills, I have been able to keep them in good condition as well.

On things I have now: I do not have to worry so much about being able to pay my mortgage or other bills. We budget very very carefully so we don't have overages, and are squirreling away literal pennies into a savings account because we finally can. Any extra we don't spend at the grocery store (let's say things were on sale or something), we put toward one of our debts. It is making the idea of being debt free an actual concept instead of "someday" or "when I die" (like my parents).

Why would she even ask that??? Ahhhh!!

After our reception we climbed into the jacuzzi and ate cheese and cake until we were ready to pass out.

[–] Interrupting MIL pheonixfire21 37 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

Until you can get on the same page with you hubby - feel free to “store” everything she sends directly in the trash. If/when hubby has an issue, ask him politely why he doesn’t ask you if you want something before accepting it on your behalf. It’s very rude.

Just lost it on night shift at this! Can this be a poster? Or maybe a nice printed pillow cover?

[–] Her Highness: Why I Ultimately Hate Her pheonixfire21 2 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

Surprisingly enough no - I haven't seen that one. It was covered during our weekly safety meeting at work in regards to leak checking gas lines.

[–] Her Highness: Why I Ultimately Hate Her pheonixfire21 7 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

TIL that hydrogen gas burns invisibly, and is so hot it will auto-ignite a broom that gets within 6in of the active flames. Just a fun fact for you. :)

[–] HotPocket and Damian in "Shit Got Worse" heavily featuring Gramma pheonixfire21 5 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

If you are US based, adult protective services is a thing. They have the resources to help your Grandma directly, or give you the direction to go to get what she needs. As her POA, this call is actually best made by Uncle. Especially if they can prove she really can’t live alone, and why on God’s green earth would anyone trust two “disabled” people to care for an elderly person?

[–] If every profession gave out little bags full of supplies like dentists do after a visit, what would your profession give out? pheonixfire21 6 points ago in AskReddit

Not going to lie - I've used little 1mL disposable pipettes to add concentrated flavoring oils (lemon, orange, peppermint, etc.) to baked goods and candy. They are super useful!
