[–] What are you going through right now that you need to speak about? pheonixfire21 1 points ago in AskReddit

I think that's where the problem has actually started - I was asked to write my own job description, which in my opinion was above and beyond the entry level right from the start. So now I have a job description titled "Nerfherder" that I honestly wrote for the higher end "Sr Nerfherder" that has about 50% overlap with "Nerf Specialist". I'm afraid I may have trapped myself.

I am struggling a lot with work. By industry standards I am performing about 5 pay grades above my current, but every time I think about asking for a raise/promotion, an offhand comment makes me think that I am just doing my job.

Example: let’s say I am an entry level nerfherder as defined by HR, someone who has the minimum qualifications to perform directed technical work. The work I am actually doing is equivalent to a nerf specialist - someone who could tell you the migration patterns and other technical details about the nerfs, and does not have any really technical oversight. Other members of my herding group (performing different and valuable functions) have frequently commented that I seem to be more like a nerf specialist than a nerfherder. I have no equivalents in other herding groups to compare to, so there will always be the argument against my promotion to nerf specialist because it could be classified as my job role as nerfherder to know that much about the nerfs. I’m lost and don’t even know where to start.

[–] [SERIOUS] What were your last words to someone who’s died? pheonixfire21 3 points ago in AskReddit

I love you Grandma. I’ll see you later. - Knowing that would be the last time I saw her. She passed in my parents’ home, surrounded by family and having said her goodbyes to all of us.

I’m so sorry my baby. - The hardest day of my life was letting my childhood cat go. He had stomach cancer and broke college me didn’t have the money to save him. I still blame myself and it still feels like someone ripping out a piece of my soul, seven years later. I try so hard to avoid that part of my mind.

I always heard this as Matt Smith saying goodbye as well. “I will always remember when the Doctor was me”. Gets me every time.

Um what? Who fantasizes about a small child potentially getting hurt? Go with your gut momma! I'm not even sure what bin of nuts she falls under, but that's not normal grandparent behaviour. Your child's safety & well-being is non-negotiable.

I love your floor to ceiling shelving! So pretty and coordinated as well.

Striped squill, also called puschkinia. Lovely little things that produce a truly stunning number of seeds if you let them. Seeds are really only good for replanting, and bulb division will give you heartier plants. Trim once the bloom is spent to avoid seed production.

[–] Has anyone ever used Cabot Australian Timber Oil? pheonixfire21 10 points ago in HomeImprovement

My parents used it in an attempt to save their deck. Other, underlying issues aside, the Australian Oil lasted approx 3 years on their completely exposed wood deck before it started looking pretty rough and dry again.

My husband and I love our mason bees. He calls them our little bumper cars but will gently guide them if they are really struggling.

[–] Does anyone know what this plant is called? pheonixfire21 3 points ago in gardening

Step 1: Keep away from cats. Not because they are toxic or harmful, but because my cat cannot keep her teefers off of it and has chewed one nearly to death.

Step 2: Looks like a Victorian parlour Palm (Chamaedorea elegans). Likes decently humid, warm environment. It will flower if enough light, but do well enough in low light conditions. They like being snug in their pots and have a slow growth habit. Non-fluoride containing water is best.

    Good luck!

[–] FD(ear)H wants us to respond to my MIL and she's apparently calling in three hours. Please help pheonixfire21 1 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

Question: She brings up all of these other people that supposedly he should miss talking to - does she play gatekeeper to those people? Would your SO be willing to form a relationship with those people independent of his parents?

[–] The bitch dyed her hair bright pink!!!! pheonixfire21 1 points ago in JUSTNOMIL

I mean, not everyone wants to grow up and be the pink crayon, but ya know she's got to set that bar high for herself. Personally, since she's very, very obviously doing it for attention - just ignore her. Remind yourself (and anyone else) that your wedding day is about your marriage - not the nutter trying to be a pink crayon. Next time she mentions how "nobody will confuse us now", gently remind her that no one was ever going to - you're the one in the bridal dress remember? Blessings on you & your marriage!

I read "morose" as "moose", then realized that might be applicable too. What a moose.

    Niko sounds demonic.

What? Because it's a derivative of Nikolaus? The saint?
