[–] The best art of the 21st century | Art and design pomod 2 points ago in ContemporaryArt

Same old names that have been around for 20 years or more.

Well to be fair, its supposed to be the Best of the 21c. which is about 20 years old, so of course.

I wasn't that impressed with Kjartansson's work when I when I saw it; it was just alright; Jeremy Deller's position at # 2 was warranted though IMO, that work was brilliant, so was Christian Marclay's The Clock, and Ai Wei Wei's Fairytale.

Subjectivity is the most important aspect of the art world so the list is whatever. I still just like that a mainstream newspaper engages with contemporary art in some kind of way.

So are his enabler/protector/sycophants. Laws don’t matter if they aren’t enforced.

This admin will continue to think their above the law until the Democrats start enforcing the law. i.e., Jail for contempt. If there is no rule of law there is no democracy.

[–] Left vs. Fact: Male and Female - What's So Confusing? pomod 1 points ago * (lasted edited 2 days ago) in POLITIC

Why can't people express what ever gender they want?
No problem. It's none of anyone's business really. I don't get this right wing obsession to control others. Its pathetic.

EDIT: Holy smokes this video is train wreck of bigotry and ignorance, fear and paranoia. O_o?

[–] This is Marshall McLuhan: The Medium is the Message (1967) - "Examines the impact of electronic technology on the contemporary world." (51:55) [CC] pomod 2 points ago * (lasted edited 3 days ago) in Documentaries

Dude, MaLuhan is at the centre of the media studies canon for like 50 years. If it was nonsense somebody smarter than you would have wrote a paper about it and McLuhan wouldn't be as respected has he is. Maybe your own thinking needs to be a lit less literal or a bit more plastic and analogous. Or maybe you can write that paper. But you sound a little foolish dying on this hill like this. "I don't get it, he was idiot" LOL.

Why do you keep calling him and idiot just because you can't grasp the concept. "The medium is the message" simply means, in a nutshell, that form the informs content and how we consume it - It's a framing device. If you want another reference consider, another Toronto media genius, Moses, Znaimer (who created Much Music in the 80s) and who once said television is not about content, it's about flow, i.e., keeping people away from their remotes. How does that inform how information is presented? It's another example of how our relationship to Television differs from other media. McLuhan was a visionary.

[–] Michigan Republicans Change Rules To Virtually Ensure Donald Trump Will Receive All Delegates pomod 1 points ago in politics

I'm frankly surprised, I thought Trump was mostly a useful idiot for republicans and they would leap at the chance to replace him with someone less... idiotic or of less liability.

[–] Billionaires in Davos hate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s 70% tax on the rich pomod 7 points ago in politics

You living in a never never land. That Friedmanesque, neo-liberal supply side economics has been completely discredited. Nobody benefits form giving super rich successive tax breaks except the super rich. Tax policy should be parabolic and get increasingly high the wealthier you get. In the early 70s wealthy people paid a similar tax rate and it was redirected into infrastructure and communities and a robust middle class could thrive. That's why my parents generation could afford a house on their working class salaries while today's generation are doomed to a lifetime of indentured servitude just to pay their student debt. Beginning with Reagan, successive tax breaks to the insanely wealthy with punitive austerity measures given out to everyone else to "pay" for them has resulted in zero purchasing power for a majority of Americans. The middle class has all but gutted, and any social safety apparatus that was in place to help those most in need has been dismantled. But hey the 1% are still making great money and squirreling it away in off shore tax havens and out of circulation. Meanwhile America's debt has soared because the country is spending way more than it can bring in. Tax the rich, pay the debt, shrink the wealth gap. Nobody needs a billion dollars; what's the carbon footprint that comes with that? It's irresponsible in 2019. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet agree.
