I’m so glad that something good came out of the nightmare hellscape that is epilepsy. The strength borne from coping with seizures (on top of the strength it takes to join the air force!) speaks highly of your endurance and bravery. Good job! It took me ten years to grieve the life I was working toward pre seizures. Kudos, dude.

How do you find out which vitamins to target? Do I have to pay for a doctor’s visit?

Check your recipes! I don’t know the nutritional value of actual Bulletproof Coffee, I can only speak to the 1/2 tsp of cream in my drip.

Wait wait wait. What’s the difference between epilepsy treatment keto and regular keto?? My neurologist knows I’m trying keto to try and control my seizures, but didn’t mention a distinction. Can you help educate me?

I suppose you can find google results to support any claim, but as someone who can fast a lot longer with a little cream:

“During a "true fast" cream in coffee is forbidden, but during an intermittent fast a splash of cream will not break your fast. Cream does not stimulate the release of insulin because it is low in calories and is mostly fat.

Coffee with cream contains about 20 calories. In general drinking anything with less than 50 calories will surely keep your body within the fasted state during an intermittent fast. Even diet doctor, Dr. Jason Fung confirms that drinking coffee with cream should not hinder you from getting the results you desire during an intermittent fast”

To be fair, the website that I’m quoting this from is littlecoffeeplace.com, but the information is convenient for me, and I’ve had a lot of success with these guidelines. So, take my anecdotal evidence with a grain of salt, and find what is going to set you up for long-term success. Good luck!!

Healthy fats like avocados, olive oil, nut butters, and bacon. Cream, cheese, and butter have lactose in them that turns into sugar, throwing off ketosis. Am I off base? Have my google searches failed me? That'd be awesome.

If I have even 1/2 tsp of fat in the morning (in my tea or coffee) I find that it is MUCH easier to fast for MUCH longer, especially if I wake up hungry. There is lots of advice and science from a quick google search about what will knock you out of the fasted state, but ultimately, you've gotta find what works for you. Anecdotally, if I can stay under 50 calories of fat, I stay in the fasted state and have a super productive morning.

So, I'm doing this keto thing, and it's going great. Hopefully it will lead to more control over my hormonal seizures. I'm three weeks in and ~10lbs down.

So... what's the deal with "healthy fats" and "unhealthy fats"? Sometimes I feel some of the keto rules are for those a little more hardcore/experienced than I am. Cheese, butter, and HWC are making the transition wonderful, and it's much easier to hit my macros and have a good time.

I'm worried that this is self-sabotage, either by being too hard on myself, or not being diligent enough to follow stricter rules.

I'm peeing on the sticks, being mindful of my macros, cutting out sugar completely (minus moderate amounts of full fat dairy), and intermittent fasting... Is that enough? Am I doing all of this for nothing?

TLDR; Are unhealthy fats really that bad on keto?
