[–] To cool, what took so long rynthetyn 2 points ago in specializedtools

That's what I was thinking too. It could be a decent addition to my hurricane first aid kit for when Steri-strips aren't enough and it's not feasible to get to a hospital. It would probably be good to have if you were doing remote camping where it's a long hike back to civilization.

[–] Trump’s Weird Toilet Tweet Has Twitter Users Wondering About A Certain Pee Tape rynthetyn 22 points ago in politics

Given that there's nothing negative the man says about anybody else that isn't projection, I'm going with a decent possibility that the tape is real.

Then he gave him $100 and everyone clapped.

Spacey benefited from being mostly known for straight roles and people conflating the actor with the character. He was pretty much the textbook example of the glass closet where even extras on his movies knew because of his on set behavior (I heard a story about him directly from someone who was an extra on one of his movies), but since he never came out nobody in the press mentioned it.

Graham definitely pings so hard even the most naive person in middle America can tell though

Men wouldn't be enough to sink him but underage boys would. Just like how everyone knew Kevin Spacey was both gay and predatory, but it was the news coming out that he went after a 14 year-old boy that got him canceled.

It would have to be underage boy bad, at minimum. And not, underage in some states and not in others like with Mark Foley, more like the kind that can't be spun and ends in long jail sentences.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it came out all of this that he's a literal mob boss. At the very least, you don't work in the industries he worked in without working closely with the mob.

To be honest, I think he does. There's a, "will someone rid me of this meddlesome priest?" element to how he talks about SNL.

[–] Look at her hips! The left is from her instagram and the right is a paparazzi shot. rynthetyn 49 points ago in Instagramreality

To be fair, a lot of the weight was because she was massively bloating from preeclampsia. All of that bloat went away almost as soon as she gave birth. It's why she went with the surrogate after the first two--her pregnancies were high risk because she got preeclampsia so bad.

Not that she didn't also get a shit ton of work done after the kids were born, but bloating at the level she had it means drastic changes from that alone.

[–] What have you seen genuinely shitty people do that they thought was perfectly acceptable? rynthetyn 4 points ago in AskReddit

One of my absolute worst days working retail was when I had to go into work after a hurricane had passed and our side of the state was clear. Except that this particular hurricane strengthened over the Everglades, which no one thought possible up to that point, so by the time I got into work, the Miami headquarters where the mainframe is was getting hammered.

To make a long story short, our registers couldn't pull up a single price because the mainframe were down since all of Miami was without power, so we had to manually key the price and enter the discounts. It would have probably been okay if it had been local shoppers who get the whole hurricane thing, but the locals were at home cleaning up so all we had were bored tourists. Bored tourists who couldn't understand why there were problems with the system when the hurricane had passed, and decided to yell at us both for the registers not working right and half of them were foreigners who got mad at us for not speaking their language.

I never want to go back to retail, but I'd rather work Black Friday than a repeat of getting yelled at by customers over being unable to control a major hurricane.

Dali was one of the few people at the time who recognized just how surrealist Disney was. As weird as it seems on first blush, that collaboration makes all kinds of sense, and it's such a fascinating bit of art history.

[–] What's that one product that is completely worth your money? rynthetyn 1 points ago in AskReddit

My mom has good quality knives and then the stuff she does with them makes me cringe. The other day I found her with the very expensive Wustoff chef's knife blade down on a dish towel as a way of propping other stuff up while it was drying. She didn't see why I was making a big deal out of it because it was only for a little while.

Needless to say, I don't let her or anybody touch my knives.

[–] White House Is 'Hiding' Something About Donald Trump's Physical Exam, Says Dick Cheney's Cardiologist rynthetyn 3 points ago in politics

I'm guessing that not drinking or smoking helped. He's lazy, doesn't believe in exercise and eats shitty food, but since he's not compounding that with alcohol or tobacco, his risk factors aren't as high as they could be. He's also rich enough that he can afford all the preventive medicine in the world.

If he drank and smoked, he'd probably have dropped dead years ago.

I was still in elementary school when he left office so my memories are kind of fuzzy, but yeah, his staff did a good job of hiding it and the media didn't dig. There were signs in retrospect, but it's nothing to the degree of signs Trump seems to be exhibiting. Either his people are worse at hiding it, he's declining so rapidly they can't hide it, or he's decided to go full mob boss faking dementia to stay out of jail.

I've got a very expensive pair of men's brogues that are in r/BuyItForLife territory, and even with as expensive as they were, similar women's shoes that were twice as expensive weren't nearly as well made. These have stitched leather soles and all that jazz, and even the high end designer women's pairs were glued soles and weren't going to last nearly as long.

It's so convenient, especially when "menswear inspired" shoes are in style.

[–] [Funpost] Another guy I miss so much! Anyone want him or his Earth-X doppelgänger to show up? rynthetyn 7 points ago in LegendsOfTomorrow

I'd be good with that. I like Russell Tovey as an actor and since Arthur Darvill and John Barrowman left the show we've been sorely lacking in Doctor Who actors in the Flarrowverse.

[–] What life-altering things should every human ideally get to experience at least once in their lives? rynthetyn 1 points ago in AskReddit

I agree with this one. I've done solo travel in countries where I don't speak a word of the language beyond basic greetings and just knowing I was able to do it gives me confidence. If I can find my way across a completely unfamiliar city where I can't communicate, picking up and going by myself to another city in my own country is easy.

[–] Play it cool rynthetyn 3 points ago in comics

Truth. Once I realized I fit into the bottom end of the men's shoe range I started hitting up both departments. I can usually get better deals in men's athletic shoes, heck, I went looking for cheap cleats for flag football and came away with top of the line Nike football cleats for $20.

[–] My uncle visiting from the Philippines has never seen snow. This is what happened today. rynthetyn 19 points ago in pics

I grew up in Florida and only saw snow when we visited the Pennsylvania relatives in winter. Freshman year of college, I legit called home when it started snowing for the first time.

By the time I graduated I understood why retirees head south in the winter.

[–] He literally bowed. rynthetyn 2 points ago in thatHappened

Yeah, most of my relatives could afford to travel outside the US if they wanted to, it's just that they choose not to. They're the same ones who come to Florida and instead of trying something new, go eat at the handful of Pennsylvania Dutch restaurants that make inferior versions of what they cook everyday at home.

My mom, on the other hand, went off to Europe on her own in the '60s. My siblings and I were raised with the assumption that we'd probably end up outside the US at some point. The other relatives on her side of the family mostly think it's too adventurous and scary.
