    [–] Wayne Rooney has driven a revolution at DC United sauce_murica 2 points ago in soccer

    Arrested at the airport "for public intoxication and swearing" (misdemeanor offense, basically had to pay $110 to the Court):

    Deadspin obtained the incident report from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police, and published the details on Tuesday. According to the report, the arresting officer was dispatched after receiving a report of a person trying to go through a secure door.

    “I approached the individual and asked what happened,” reads the report, “and in his broken English he stated he went through the door … because he thought it was a lift. The subject provided a United Kingdom passport and the individual was identified as Wayne Mark Rooney.”

    Earlier this month a spokesman for Rooney, who plays for Major League Soccer’s DC United, said the arrest came after the former Manchester United forward was left “disorientated” by prescribed sleeping tablets and “some alcohol consumption” that he took on a flight from Saudi Arabia following a promotional business trip. The incident report appears to corroborate that story. “Mr Rooney had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage about his person, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet,” the report says.

    Nah. So far Wazza only gets in trouble in the airport at DC.

    We've been linked to something like 84 players so far. Says a lot regarding how "in the news" we've been that no news between Saturday and Monday is considered dead silence!

    He's saying Schira's not a good source.

    The post also misquoted Schira and claimed there was a 150m demand from Napoli, when Schira actually said that Napoli don't want to sell, and the release clause (150m) doesn't even kick in until next summer.

    If you have a question about a particular post's removal, feel free to send us a modmail. We're always happy to discuss.

    Further, I double checked mod log in response to this comment, as I was not near a computer most of the day yesterday. The sub being quiet for the last 24 hours has nothing to do with the mods "deleting posts."

    Sometimes things just get quiet.

    There isn't 1. We have so many holes that no one player would be the ideal signing.

    I'd be surprised if we aren't legitimately shopping Lukaku around right now. Italy seems the most likely destination, but the question is whether any of the likely clubs will pony up.

    Tier 3 reported a day or two ago that our interest in him was "slight" and things were "not close."

    Also I'd take a £50/60M bid for De Gea if he genuinely wants to leave.

    If that happens who would you ideally want to start at GK next season?

    United has been one of the elite clubs for decades. In one of our worst years we nonetheless managed to get to the CL QFs by knocking PSG on their asses. We have worldwide reach, offer proper wages, and give players the opportunity to be part of the rebuild.

    In other recent "down" years, we've signed players like Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba, Matic, Zlatan, German POTY Mkhi, etc. Using Sancho as an anecdotal "see? No one likes us!" claim is derivative, over-simplifying things, and just plain wrong.

    I get where you're coming from - for me (a) adjusting to the chasm in quality between Championship and PL; and (b) the benefit of getting a full season's experience playing, rather than playing the odd cup match - would be of more use.

    I'm fine agreeing to disagree, though!

    If they do - can you imagine what their wage bill is going to look like next season?

    I've had good discussions with Stebro on plenty of occasions.

    Sheffield just got promoted. We'd be better off letting Dean stay with them and get a full season's experience in the PL.

    I'd be a-okay going that route for one season. I'll admit - I have my concerns with Romero as the #1 for a full season, but if the goal this season is to fget back to Top 4, Romero should (based upon his play to date) be good enough to achieve that, provided we strengthen sufficiently elsewhere.

    The summer is young. Let's wait and see what Ed/Ole do before we find a tall bridge just yet.

    If spoof is right --- the nice thing is, we sort of have options:

    1. Reinvest whatever we get from Dave into whomever we want, since Dave should earn a decent figure in this market;

    2. Get an older, "stopgap" keeper until Dean, etc., is ready (maybe even for just 1 year?);

    3. Go with Romero for a year.

    Dave has been fantastic for the club, but his play at the end of this season shows a player no longer committed to the cause. Similarly, his distribution has caused us significant issues since Ole came in, so bringing in a slightly less gifted shot stopper (since Dave is one of the best) who's better at distributing the ball could be of some benefit in the long run.
