[–] In a bathroom on campus. I’ve heard rumors this is a smoke detector that can also detect the vapor from ecigs. Is that true? somegarbagedoesfloat 10 points ago in whatisthisthing

I don’t know what this is, but it isn’t a smoke detector. I work in the fire alarm industry, and can verify that ALL smoke detectors detect vape as well.

This looks like it’s either a motion detector or a carbon monoxide detector

He said rook, when he meant knight. Obviously you still need to move the bishop

    1. Move the knight out of the way

    FTFY

Only if the human allowed it to happen

I think the fewest possible moves to victory is 3.

King up, bishop down and left, rook over.

[–] Why doesn't something like this exist on the market? (does it?) somegarbagedoesfloat 21 points ago in guns

    Reasons why this would suck:

    1. It would break almost instantly if you’re gun ever say, fell off a table. It happens.
    2. The lack of any sort of shroud on the lens means that it would be highly susceptible to glare, and you would have a hard time seeing your optic in the wrong conditions.
    3. It’s not even mean for actual firearms. The shockwave a real gun creates might be enough to break this alone.

If you’re looking for something with a similar profile that’s actually practical and won’t break the bank, my AR I posted a while back has an optic you might like.

    [–] I know it’s for baking...and that’s all. They’re 6in diameter. somegarbagedoesfloat 2 points ago in whatisthisthing

These are really great for making small loaves of cornbread. As a single guy I own one of these specifically for that purpose.

Edit: mine is cast iron but about the same shape as that. Not sure if those are or not.

[–] Cyberblade - Did you know fluo lights up because it basically turns invisible Ultra violet into light from the visual light spectrum somegarbagedoesfloat 2 points ago in MechanicalKeyboards

You could do that but you would need a whole hell of a lot of expensive bench mounted power tools instead of just a scroll saw.

Or, you could make a few solid pieces and use dove tail joints to join them, witch might actually look kinda cool.

Same answer, layers. You use thin pieces of wood and cut them each individually with a scroll saw and then use small amounts of wood glue (or if you really want to be nuts about it you could joint them together but fuck that) to adhere the layers together.

I live in the US and I’m pretty sure the US dollar is gonna crash within the next few years, so I keep my savings in the form of stocks, Swiss francs, and silver.

[–] Things to Know Before Leaving the Military (Part 1) somegarbagedoesfloat 1 points ago in Veterans

In the military, you’re expected to always be brutally honest at all times. The world of business is much different; and that’s more and more true the higher up you are; everyone is fighting to get to the top, and anything you can do to get there is usually acceptable, as long as it’s not outright illegal, and even illegal practices can be common place in more brutal industries (stockbrokers& government arms contracting for example, watch wolf of wall street and war dogs if you haven’t already)

And what you have to consider as far as Bullshitting an interview is, if you can actually do the job then it isn’t really BS’ing. The interviewer is EXPECTING you to pint yourself in a light that makes you look far better than you are, so if you don’t, the interviewer will assume you did anyway and that you just REALLY suck.

The world of business is cutthroat and dog-eat-dog. You gotta do whatever it takes; I think that mentality is the reason so many vets are permanently stuck in blue collar jobs after the military.
