[–] Is this official? Is Z370 really not going to support Cannon Lake? stephengee 1 points ago in intel

It's pointing out that your comment isn't relevant. A CPU you bought 6 years doesn't lend credence to the claim that "plenty" of people upgrade their CPUs without upgrading their motherboards.

CPUs aren't doubling in threads and getting 10% IPC improvements anymore.

[–] Samsung 970 pro RAID 0 stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

Get a single, larger 970 instead of two.

[–] What is your guy's favorite antivirus/anti-malware program and why? stephengee 9 points ago in pcmasterrace

Windows Defender. Because it's already installed, free, effective and uses very few system resources.

[–] Can this run EVE Online? stephengee 2 points ago in pcmasterrace

That will run it just fine. I used to run eve on my shitty i3 laptop from 2012 with integrated graphics and it worked fine :P

You're sharing the chipset's PCIe lanes for both M.2 ports, so you're going to lose some of the potential performance right there before you even look at the drive's potential. DMI 3 is only an x4 PCIe 3.0 connection.

It's super pointless in the real world to stripe drives this fast honestly.

[–] Is this official? Is Z370 really not going to support Cannon Lake? stephengee 1 points ago in intel

Wow it's almost like moving from the 2500k to the 3700k brought both IPC (even if only 5-10%) and threads...

Please tell me how that's relevant with the last 3 generations bring zero IPC improvements.

[–] Percentages of What You Use Your Computer For stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

    40% work, 20% gaming, 20% media consumption, 10% communications.

[–] Is this official? Is Z370 really not going to support Cannon Lake? stephengee 4 points ago in intel

Wow, its almost like CPU performance has been virtually stagnant for ~4 years, unlike "back in the day".

[–] Is this official? Is Z370 really not going to support Cannon Lake? stephengee 3 points ago in intel

It seems to be grouping them by the feature set of RST supported by each chipset family. In this case, the Z370 and other 200-series chipsets have the same RST feature support.

[–] My buddy won't play his new gaming PC because he thinks 73C is to hot under load. stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

Whoever told you that is an idiot. 74C is the Tcase maximum, a spec for people designing CPU coolers.

The core temps are safe until it hard throttles at 100C.

[–] Is this official? Is Z370 really not going to support Cannon Lake? stephengee 4 points ago in intel

No, this is RST support. Nothing on this chart says Z370 wont support cannon lake.

[–] Can anyone figure out the exact model of this graphics card? stephengee 3 points ago in pcmasterrace

Not from what you've shown us here.

Regardless, anything this old is going to struggle with new games.

[–] Windows 10 ISO > Install to SSD? stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

You don't. You need to burn the ISO to a disk, or write it to a USB drive.

[–] What is windows 10/7 and why does everyone hate updating/updates. stephengee 2 points ago in pcmasterrace

It's popular to hate Windows. It's been this way forever. Eventually the groupthink accepts when a good version comes around and then they'll stick to that one next time there is a big change.

It's not bad. Automatic updates are the best thing MS has ever decided to do, which is obvious with the number of idiots clambering to disable them on machines they have private data on, and on machines that are online.

These people have zero issue with their phones updating, but they throw a hissy fit when it comes to their PC.

[–] Removing Sexually focused "Visual Novels" is not Censorship, but Sensible. stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

Again, I'm not interested in filtering out games with sexual content. That would omit amazing games, like the example given in The Witcher.

[–] DELL U2718Q or LG 27UK650 stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

There wont be any difference in input latency.

Response time is the speed at which each pixel can change color, typically measured from grey to white, then back to grey. Higher number means this change occurs more slowly, leading to a smudged, or blurred image when the screen is in motion. Keep in mind when comparing this on different monitors that there is no one standard for how to test it. A 2ms panel from one manufacturer may be worse than an 8ms panel from a different one. Anything under 8ms should be fine for a gaming display @ 60Hz.

IPS panels are typically slower than TN, but a modern IPS vs an older TN are usually pretty similar. Especially when you take in to account the anti-ghosting technologies that both of these displays have, I doubt it will be an issue for you.

[–] DELL U2718Q or LG 27UK650 stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

I do, but nothing super competitive as much these days. It's obviously only 60Hz, but the response time is at least as good as the "2ms" LG IPS panel I had prior.

It's not going to satisfy the 240Hz 4:3 CSGOmasterrace obviously lol.

[–] Removing Sexually focused "Visual Novels" is not Censorship, but Sensible. stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

You seem to mistake my position in the argument. I don't care if people do or do not buy it, nor why they heard about it.

I don't think these kinds of games belong on steam. I also don't think asset flip bullshit, half-tested indie shit, mobile game ports, etc... don't belong on steam either. Browsing steam games is virtually impossible with all this bullshit floating around.

I don't think hardcore porn belongs on youtube. I don't think cat pictures belong on r/pcmasterrace. I don't think pornographic VNs, dating sims, animations or mini games belong on Steam. I'm not against their existence, I don't want them on steam because it harms my experience and makes it harder to find quality games.

[–] Removing Sexually focused "Visual Novels" is not Censorship, but Sensible. stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

No one is saying other's shouldn't be able to enjoy them. Get off your false premise.

[–] Removing Sexually focused "Visual Novels" is not Censorship, but Sensible. stephengee 0 points ago in pcmasterrace

That's not really a justification for not removing them, is it?

Better is still worth doing, even if it's not perfect. Other things that still need removing isn't a reason to not remove anything at all.

[–] Cpu wattage halfed! stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

Watt is a measure of consumption. If the CPU doesn't need 51 watts, it's not going to be using 51 watts.

[–] Hello! I recently got a Huion GT-221 pro (pen display) and began using it as a monitor. I noticed that there is significant motion blur in games, help? stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

This would likely be what's called "ghosting" and is a result of the display's poor response time.

In an LCD display, each pixel takes time to change color, it's not instant. When an image on your screen is moving, that requires many pixels to change color rapidly. If they're unable to change fast enough, the image appears blurry or smeared until it slows down, or stops again.

Lower response time = clearer motion

Higher refresh rate = smoother motion

[–] Paying for a game but expecting dlc to be free stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

If I'm paying $60 for a game, I don't think it should have paid DLC, period. If they do, I won't buy it till the price drops drastically, or they release some kind of bundle deal where I'm getting several DLCs and the game for a reduced price later.

If it's a free to play game, I'm perfectly fine with paid DLC.
