[–] Why Corsair, why? stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

    UV exposure?

[–] To scare kids off chicken nuggets stephengee 57 points ago in therewasanattempt

    So?

Go spend $100 at a 5* restaurant and your soup will literally be full of water that was boiled with a chicken carcass in it.

[–] Need urgent help - Any appreciated. Used Formaldehyde/Formalin based medication on a tank containing shrimp. stephengee 1 points ago in Aquariums

Do a 50% change today, add carbon to your files and do another 50% tomorrow. Should be safe enough at that point for your shrimp. After a week the carbon should have eliminated any traces and can be removed.

[–] Fish in cycle, opaline gouramie. Look/acting okay? stephengee 2 points ago in Aquariums

You just described what my pair does every night exactly. Doesn't look too bothered to me. I can also vouch for TSS, that stuff does a pretty amazing job.

[–] Dealing with a shortish term (12-20 hour) power outage stephengee 1 points ago in Aquariums

Should be fine. I'd feed lightly for the next week or so just to minimize waste production if you're really paranoid.

Second this. Also sometimes called lamp eye tetras.

They might be just a bit bigger than what OP is hunting for though.

[–] 29 Gallon (Tall) Tank stocking idea's? stephengee 1 points ago in Aquariums

Skip the guppies and substitute a better tetras, like 8-12 Cardinal tetras.

You could also get away with a larger gourami if you wanted in a 29, or even a mated pair of dwarf. The Cory cats and gourami won't even notice each other.

[–] My local petco has been getting some interesting fish. Apparantly balloon pearl gouramis are a thing stephengee 3 points ago in Aquariums

When you "vote with your wallet" without also or first complaining, they don't know the difference between a market with little or no demand vs. we have poor service/stock and need to fix it.

    They can't read your mind.

It's almost like when you get hungry... Why bother eating if you're just going to get hungry again?

Just never say anything about anything, it's all pointless.

[–] Mostly for gaming, is there any Ryzen winner over Intel in the same price range? stephengee 4 points ago in intel

The difference drops because your GPU limits performance.

That's like saying you're an Olympian, not because you're fast enough to compete, because when you compete in the special Olympics, you're faster than the guys with prosthetics.

Your phrasing has the cause/effect reversed.

[–] On hot days, what can I do to keep my 60gal tank's temperature lower? stephengee 1 points ago in Aquariums

A cheap, less than $150 window air-conditioner is probably the easiest option, but not very cheap.

Freeze a couple water bottles and drop them in the tank? You'll have to regulate it yourself though, but that might help during the hottest part of the day.

[–] 360 air circulation question... stephengee 2 points ago in pcmasterrace

Not to mention when they’re doing these tests they do the same tests for all cases.

Which makes the test kind of pointless when you're comparing a case with 14 fan mounts to a case with 5. If you test them both at 2 fans, you're going to get different results than the typical person buying a 14 fan monster would.

Their setup favors high-rpm intake fans with little filtering, as close as possible to the CPU cooler. Almost no one building a high end system is going to run their case fans at 100%, use a mid-range single-tower CPU cooler and not add any other fans.

With the fan setup you're considering, their results are almost meaningless.

[–] 360 air circulation question... stephengee 1 points ago in pcmasterrace

That's how I'd set it up. I'm assuming the reviews you're talking about are GNs? Keep in mind their test hardware isn't a super high end cooler and definitely not radiator, and they don't populate many of the fan locations, so your performance should be significantly better than theirs.

[–] How do i fix this? stephengee 5 points ago in pcmasterrace

Stop twisting the cord when you pick it up/set it down.

[–] Unusual rummy nose tetra behaviour stephengee 1 points ago in Aquariums

Sometimes it takes a new fish a few days to settle in and defend their territory.

[–] One of my Zebra Danios keeps getting bullied? stephengee 3 points ago in Aquariums

With schooling fish, more fish typically minimizes the picking on the slowest/weakest/smallest member. Get 4 more if you have room in the tank and that should help a lot.

[–] Does anyone else have a Jack Dempsey that's a homicidal maniac? stephengee 1 points ago in Aquariums

Sometimes they do even worse when there are only a couple fish with them instead of many. It also helps if you add them to an established tank, rather than letting them claim the whole tank then trying to add one or two fish with them.

[–] Heater compromised? stephengee 2 points ago in Aquariums

My heater has looked like that for 5+ years and is still doing it's job just fine. As long as you don't see cracks in the tube or actual water in the heater, I'd just keep using it till it failed. Checking your thermometer every day at feeding time is a good habit to have anyways.

[–] What is my guppy doing? stephengee 1 points ago in Aquariums

One of my gourami did this occasionally, always in a particular spot. I tried a few things, moving a bubbler and the filer outlet around to change water flow, moved a plastic plant nearby, nothing distracted him. What worked was changing the lighting on that edge of the tank. I cut out a strip of paper and used it to block/diffuse the light just a little on that side of the tank. Haven't seen him do it since, so I guess the lower light reduced the reflection hwe could seen.

Obviously don't attempt this if your light gets hot enough to potentially start a fire :P
