How is a designer supposed to know that they were gonna use the cleaned up version to confuse a witness?

The fact that it isn’t the guy in question asking them to do the job should be a pretty big fucking clue.

Well that would just be unfair, they’re good people who work nine to five like good people do! There you go, ruining their fucking weekend again!

I think it’s a lot like standup comedy: never bring it up. If you suspect someone might be into a thing that you like, maybe loop in a line from something that works in context*, and see if they react. If they don’t, all you did was say something that made sense, and if they do, you have a new thing to talk about. Never open with “HEY DO YOU LISTEN TO THE STANDUP COMEDY OF THIS GUY YOU PROBABLY HAVE NOT HEARD OF,” and absolutely never open with “HEY HERE ARE MY FAVORITE ANIMES”

*it absolutely has to work in context. No special terminology or reference is allowed, it needs to make sense on its own.

And even if you did, then what? All you’ve actually got in common is that time you had together, and once that conversation dries up, you’re probably fucked. It’s very rare to meet someone from somewhere you’ve never been, who you share nothing real in common with, and then become lifelong friends who can spend three hours talking and have it feel like ten minutes. Most people who stick with each other long term can do so because they share a lot of long-term things like mutual friends and shared cities, and you just don’t get that with the people you meet traveling.

Seriously. Go through the contacts list in your phone after a few years of not pruning it, you’ll find the same thing. “I don’t know one dude named Nick, but I’ve got two of them in here. Who the fuck is Rowboat?” You can have a wonderful time with some strangers when you’re all on the weird high that comes with being somewhere new and cool, but that doesn’t make you friends, or even mean that you have anything in common outside of a time and a place.

That’s down there with being the greedy bandit, because you demanded money.

Oh, so they were just following orders. They were even following them casually. That changes everything.

From what I can tell, the bulk of the evil in this world comes from people who sit in chairs from 9 to 5. They were just doing their jobs, and now there’s all this extra bullshit they have to do, just because some asshole had the gall to notice what they’re doing all day, which in this case is crudely photoshopping innocent people into undeserved guilt. They were going to go to the movies this weekend, okay? Now they’re gonna be too stressed out, and it’s all because of people like you. How dare you?

The trick is to figure out that girls like interesting boys, and what are commonly thought of as “bad boys” can also just as easily be seen as dudes who aren’t obviously boring. They’re not out for guys that will cheat on them or hit them, they’re out for not being bored to death. A guy with a couple tattoos and a side gig selling weed is more interesting than a guy with a dragon shirt and a full-time anime hobby. The former is not more likely to be an asshole than the latter.

Just figure out how to be interesting, that’s literally all it takes.

My mom had my aunt going about how weird it is that pork chops are actually made of beef right up until my aunt brought her first boyfriend around for a family dinner.

The fact that documentaries have to be films first if the people making the doc want anyone to watch it? I could set a camera up on the corner tomorrow and make a doc entitled “mean streets of where I live,” but several hours of what is essentially security camera footage isn’t going to sell any tickets, especially if nothing interesting happens.

The documentarians have an incentive to make things sound more interesting than they are, and the prisoners do too.

I’ve got a couple dudes who I occasionally drink with that are ex-cons, and you’re completely right according to them. To hear them tell it, prison is first and foremost unbelievably boring. You can’t make a good movie about it or even a good documentary about it, because it is basically all just sitting around and waiting. There’ll be some drama, sure, but it’s the same drama you would get in a house with five or more roommates. Somebody didn’t clean something they were supposed to, someone is mad because their food is missing, dumb shit like that. The vibe as I understand it is a combination of a men’s dorm and a greyhound station.

They’ll just say that that’s badass.

Also, I have to wonder how these statistics are tabulated. I really, really have a hard time buying that one out of ten out of one in a hundred dudes are doing a quarter of the murders. It sounds like they’re taking a very, very small sample for what constitutes AB (leadership or something?), and then attributing all federal prison murders perpetrated by federal prison nazis on that unrealistically small group. It just doesn’t make sense.

It also doesn’t say a damn thing about non-federal prison, and most of our system doesn’t happen in federal prisons. A brief conversation with anyone who has been to county will tell you that there’s no shortage of shamrocks or swastikas on the dudes in just basic jail, you can even learn that watching tv.

Because he knew who he was selling minors to. Think for a couple seconds before you start talking.

Nah, I don’t respect that at all. A sacrifice that brings a net benefit for others is a good thing and deserving of respect. Knowingly signing up for a completely unnecessary war isn’t helping anything, it’s just a really stupid choice some people make.

Get better friends, the ones you have are garbage. There are good people who are fun to travel with, those just aren’t an example of them.
