[–] Favorite Quick Hitter Games (2-5 hours)? theonlydidymus 2 points ago in patientgamers

Bound on PS4 is a nice story told almost entirely through it's atmosphere and the player's movements (all motion captured ballet dance).

If you're looking for something a little more puzzling, try Hue.

[–] How big is your backlog? theonlydidymus 1 points ago in patientgamers

Bundles is what got me as well, especially the Valve Pack. So much random crap in there that I didn't really care about that much because all I wanted was Counterstrike Half Life and Portal.

[–] How big is your backlog? theonlydidymus 2 points ago in patientgamers

If I'm counting my backlog of games I'm intending to play, then I've probably got a max of about 10 right now.

Games that I have but either don't feel like playing or intend on playing when I get a better computer is a much higher number. Dang Steam sales.

[–] Just finished FFXV. I've never played a game that was so good and so bad at the same time. theonlydidymus 22 points ago in patientgamers

    Fun fact!

If you replace "FF series" With "Kingdom Hearts Series" and "FFXV" in the title with "Kingdom Hearts 3" This entire post is still 100% accurate.

I don't know what else to say about this game. The ending was terrible. So much of this game was so terrible. And it still managed to be super fun and intriguing at the same time.

I think what gets me the most is just HOW terrible, and OBVIOUSLY terrible, some of the game is. Like, there's no way anyone at any point would play some of it and not say "We gotta fix this, it's bad." Just small fixes here and there would have made it so significantly better.

All that said, I still really enjoyed the majority of the game. It's disheartening to think of what this game could have been, but it's still a really solid entry in the Kingdom Hearts series with some really cool ideas.

Also if anyone could explain the ending to me (or like, the majority of the game) that would be great because I do not understand what happened, or why, at all. I think a whole lot of it relies on 1) the outside material and 2) japanese culture/tropes, which i'm assuming a lot of the audience would just understand implicitly

e: Apparently I've really angered some people by not understanding the ending... but come on. That shit didn't make any sense. I could be here all day asking questions and I bet 90% of them have no answer other than "because that's the way it is."

In the time it took for you to engage with u/DiscoDanSHU about this completely worthless argument you could have just said this:

Because of the supreme court decision on Roe Vs. Wade in 1973, abortion became legal in all 50 states up to the first 3 months of pregnancy.

Instead, you had to be smug about it and tell him to "look it up" because you couldn't be bothered to spell it out.

[–] What’s completely legal, but extremely unethical? theonlydidymus 4 points ago in AskReddit

What's unethical is an employer expecting patrons to subsidize the employee's paycheck.

It is a felony in some US states, but it is difficult to prosecute and most people wont.

[–] Men of reddit, what's the best compliment you've ever received from a girl? theonlydidymus 14 points ago in AskReddit

That's the thing though, I do deserve better than someone who will lie to me to make themselves feel better, and so do you, and so does everyone.

[–] Men of reddit, what's the best compliment you've ever received from a girl? theonlydidymus 721 points ago in AskReddit

In hindsight, "You're a good man, and I don't deserve you" or "you deserve better than me." When I was still single I used to hate when girls said that. I thought it was just girls phishing for compliments and for me to say "oh no baby you're perfect" or some crap. Thought it was an excuse to break up or reject me because they didn't want to be around me.

In the long run, though, every single girl who said that to me ended up treating me like crap or being more interested in someone else. So, in a sense, they didn't deserve me, and I did deserve better than they treated me.

After years of being married to my wife and having our lovely family, I realize that it really was a compliment, because I did deserve better than them, and I got it. Now that I know what I have, I'm grateful I didn't settle.

[–] What is an example of a movie being better than the book? theonlydidymus 7 points ago in AskReddit

I was surprised to find out that "Next" was a loose adaptation of "The Golden Man."

They were almost two completely different stories.

[–] Multilinguals, what's your "they didn't realise I could understand their language" story? theonlydidymus 840 points ago * (lasted edited 9 hours ago) in AskReddit

I have found if I ever want to defuse a situation with someone I assume is a native Spanish speaker, I switch languages and ask if they want to speak Spanish. 9/10 times everyone's stress goes down and the other person is relieved that they can express themselves better in a more comfortable language and I'll still understand.

[–] What is it like to be addicted to gambling? theonlydidymus 4 points ago in AskReddit

You are more excited about the game than you are about winning or losing.

As soon as you put your money down and are watching things play out (spinning roulette, slots rolling past, dealer flipping your next hit, scratching each individual part of your ticket) that's when you get your rush of excitement and happiness. It's that moment right before you find out if you've won or lost.

The winning itself is nice, but the feeling doesn't last. It just makes you want to play again.

When I think of cadillacs though I just think of Chevys and Buicks with a logo swap and an upscale price tag.

I took the ice cavern from ocarina of time and adapted to that one. Essentially I have them looking to bottle the blue fire to melt certain things and then I had them do the slide puzzle from that big room.

Another time I had them literally do a toddler puzzle with shapes and holes and that was too difficult.

I think we could benefit from a “meme Monday” sort of thing where images are allowed without commentary one day a week and we know what to expect. They can be automatically removed the rest of the week.

Personally, I’d want that for character art too, but the filters are easy enough to use anyway so it’s not that big a deal.

My style is ripping off puzzles and dungeons from video games that my party hasn’t played and archetyping my villains on obscure anime.

My players took a pretty decent amount of time figuring out that they were fighting the Sailor Guardians.

[–] How did you all end up getting into piracy? theonlydidymus 1 points ago in Piracy

I have long since found all the anime music I wanted. The hardest ones to find were the Detective Conan instrumental soundtracks.
